Kalmadi meets Pakistan cricket board chief

K J M Varma in Islamabad

In a bid to revive Indo-Pak cricket ties, the president of the Indian Olympic Association, Suresh Kalmadi, on Friday held talks with chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Lieutenant General Tauqir Zia.

Emerging from the 30-minute meeting in Rawalpindi, Kalmadi, when asked how optimistic he was about the resumption of the cricket ties, said that his discussions with Zia should be seen in the light of India's desire to improve sporting ties with Pakistan.

He said Zia had evinced an interest in the revival of the relationship.

Kalmadi said he proposed to Zia that "let us break the ice with South Asian Federation Games".

He said he would discuss the outcome of the meeting with Sports Minister Uma Bharthi and Board of Control for Cricket in India president Jagmohan Dalmiya.
