Veteran Indian speedster Javagal Srinath, who opted out of the Indian conditioning camp to be held in Bangalore later this month, cited injury as the reason for his withdrawal.
The right-arm paceman, speaking exclusively to rediff.com, said he has "inflamed an old problem in the right knee" and doctors have advised him to go through treatment in a conservative manner, "which is resting".
The 33-year-old had taken up a coaching contract with the Gauteng Cricket Board in Johannesburg, South Africa, in May. Besides coaching, Srinath, who was scheduled to take up the assignment in mid-September, was also supposed to play for the Highveld Strikers cricket club. But following the injury, he says his going to South Africa will depend upon the knee.
The Karnataka speedster again talked about retirement plans, saying, "In a couple of weeks, I will know whether I will continue or retire."
Srinath had retired from Tests after India's tour of the West Indies in 2001-02. But India skipper Sourav Ganguly coaxed him out of retirement.
The fast bowler feels, "It will be some more time before I am 100 per cent fit."
