Akhtar trapped overnight batsman Rajin Saleh and than Khaled Mashud leg before in his fourth over of the morning to send Bangladesh reeling to 64 for six after they resumed on 52 for four with a first innings lead of 66 runs.
Saleh's wicket was Akhtar's 100 in his 27th Test match and he ended with four for 30 and match figures of 10 for 80.
