Former Test cricketer Arun Lal on Tuesday described as 'strange' India's eighth rank in the latest ICC one-day table and said the evaluation isĀ "not reflective of current standings".

"I find this quite strange. Our performance has been quite consistent and good in the last one year," Lal said.

Recounting India's successes in the recent past, Lal said the Sourav Ganguly-led side reached the final of the South Africa World Cup, finished joint winners in the ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka and lifted the NatWest Trophy in England.

"I don't know how the points are awarded, what the parameters are. But I don't see much logic in the way India has been lowly rated," he said.

In the latest ratings released on Monday, India has been shown to have slipped three places to the eighth position with only Zimbabwe, Kenya and Bangladesh behind it. The team dropped down even while its ratings points of 104 remained unchanged.

Australia lead the rankings with 134 points while South Africa followed in the second place with 188 points. Just three points separated India from the third placed team, England who have 107 points.

"My feeling is that the ratings are not reflective of the current standings and performance in real terms," Lal, also vice-president of Indian Cricket Players Association, said.
