Zimbabwe cricket captain Heath Streak will back a fund raising initiative in Perth designed to raise money for conservation of the endangered Black Rhino in his native Zimbabwe.
Streak and members of the squad, currently touring Australia for the three-Test series, will attend a dinner and an auction at the Hyatt Hotel in Perth on October 6.
Among the items of sporting memorabilia to be auctioned are a unique pair of bats, one signed weeks before his death by Sir Donald Bradman, together with other members of the 1948 Invincibles team and many of Australia's Test match captains.
A Tiger Woods signed golf club and a boxing glove autographed by Muhammad Ali will also be sold to raise funds for Rhino conservation projects in Zimbabwe, Namibia and Zambia. To date, the Save Foundation of Australia has raised more than USD one million to help protect the species over the past 16 years.
Wildlife is close to the hearts of many Zimbabwean cricketers and are all aware of the problems of rhino poaching and killing in Zimbabwe and other African countries.
"The Save Foundation has done a fantastic job in raising money to support bona fide conservation projects and I am very happy to be personally associated with the Foundation and its dinner and auction in Perth next Monday evening," said Streak.
Other supporters of the Foundation include cricketers Glen McGrath, Matthew Hayden and David Gower besides England rugby star Jonny Wilkinson.
