Smith calls for greater maturity

South Africa captain Graeme Smith has called for greater maturity on the field following a series of incidents in the first three one-day internationals against Pakistan.

South African Shaun Pollock was fined his full match fee for dissent in the third match, while Mark Boucher and Shoaib Malik attended a hearing after Malik claimed the tourists' wicketkeeper used abusive language towards him.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also called for video footage of a spat involving South African Andrew Hall and Pakistan's Yousuf Youhana in the second game at Lahore.

"It is not an area of real concern but both teams need to be more mature on the field. We need to stay calm and channel our energy constructively," Smith told a news conference on Thursday.

The teams play the fourth and fifth matches in Rawalpindi on Friday and Sunday, with Pakistan leading the series 2-1.

"There is lot of pride and prestige involved out there. There is also a big pressure situation out there. But we can't let things get out of control and turn it into a school game. Both teams need to display more maturity," Smith added.

Pakistan coach Javed Miandad also said he had told his players to calm down.

"I think the pressure got to the players. It is a high profile series. We have not attached much importance to the incidents. But our players have been told to be calm," he said.

Smith said his team were now fully acclimatised to conditions in Pakistan.

"It is looking like the South African team I know," he said. "It is a crunch game for us. I am confident we will be difficult to beat although we still need to improve in a few areas."

Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq is still doubtful for Friday's game because of a hamstring injury but fast bowler Mohammad Sami has recovered from a side strain.
