Pace bowler Umar Gul returned impressive figures of five for 17 in the third One-day international to give Pakistan an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match one-day international series against Bangladesh in Lahore on Monday.

Pakistan's 42-run victory was blighted by two power failures that stopped play for a total of 55 minutes as the technical staff at the Gaddafi stadium struggled to get one of the light towers functioning during the day-night game.

Bangladesh, set a revised victory target of 244 in 44 overs under the Duckworth/Lewis method due to the loss of play, finished on 201 for nine compared with Pakistan's 257 for nine that included half centuries from Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq (64 not out) and Yousuf Youhana (65).

Pakistan, also comfortable winners in the first two one-day matches in Multan and Faisalabad, recorded their 300th win in their 564th ODI. Australia is the only other country to have won 300 one-dayers.

Bangladesh never recovered from the early loss of wickets as Gul, in his 10th one-day international, continued to trouble the batsmen with bounce and movement.

Gul shattered the visiting team's hopes with an opening burst of 7-2-9-3 during which he had Mohammad Ashraful and Rajin Saleh caught behind and Habibul Bashar caught at third man by Abdul Razzaq after miscuing a hook.

Ashraful fell in the first over for the third time in the series and his scores now read a miserable 0, 3 and 0.

Gul's opening spell was spread over the two interruptions but they did not hamper his effectiveness with the new ball. He then returned to take the wickets of Kapali and Mashrafe Mortaza to complete with his first five-wicket haul.

Recalled opener Hannan Sarkar scored a solid 61 from 107 balls and shared a fourth wicket partnership of 95 from 122 balls with Kapali (61), but it was not enough to see Bangladesh through as the run-rate rose to over eight an over.

Kapali hit five fours and a six in his quick innings in a bid to force the pace but he also fell to Gul.

CAPTAIN'S KNOCK

Earlier, Pakistan captain Inzamam scored his 66th half century, from 54 balls, in limited overs cricket to help his side to their total.

Bangladesh medium pacer Tapash Baisya took three wickets in five balls in the penultimate over to check a late Pakistan surge in which 57 runs came in the last six overs.

Baisya got rid of Razzaq, Kamran Akmal and Junaid Zia on the second, fifth and last ball of his ninth over to pull back Pakistan, who had been cruising at 242 for six with 11 balls remaining.

Inzamam chose to bat and Yasir Hameed and Yousuf Youhana made solid starts after opener Mohammad Hafeez suffered another failure when he was caught behind in the sixth over off Baisya for two runs.

Hameed holed out to Rafique at deep long on after making 40 from 66 balls and Youhana was bowled by Mushfiqur Rahman for 65 from 74 balls in the 31st over.

It was during the spells of Rahman and Rafique that the Pakistan batting struggled and the 200 came up in the 44th over.

But Inzamam held firm and found able allies in all rounders Shoaib Malik and Abdul Razzaq to make a late charge.
