Test, ODIs of Best vs Rest?

The International Cricket Council is considering a biennial championship of one Test and three one-day matches between the 'Best of the World' and 'Rest of the World'.

The tournament, called the Super Series, will see the top-ranking Test team play one game against a Rest of the World side and the top one-day team fight it out in three matches against the world's rest.

Australia currently heads the Test and ODI rankings, with South Africa coming second in both versions of the game.

This would be the first time that the ICC could accord official status to the Best versus Rest matches, which have so far been considered as first class games.

"The modalities of the tournament are being worked out," according to Board of Control for Cricket in India sources.

Discussion on the tournament will come up at the ICC's Cricket Committee - Management meeting in Mumbai on Thursday and Friday.

If the proposal is put forward by the committee, the Test-playing countries will be formally intimated of the decision and their views sought.

The Super Series, if played every two years, could substantially add to the ICC's coffers.
