The Pakistan Cricket Board will claim substantial damages from the United Cricket Board of South Africa if it does not reverse its decision to cancel its tour of Pakistan.

In a letter to the head of the International Cricket Council Ehsan Mani, PCB chairman Tauqir Zia has urged him to use his influence to persuade the UCBSA to tour Pakistan.

"Otherwise we will be left with no other option but to take the matter to the ICC Disputes Resolution Committee and claim damages," Zia said.

The South Africans left Pakistan cricket in a shock on Saturday when they announced the cancellation of the tour that was due to begin on Monday.

A bomb blast in a office building that did not cause any casualties about four miles from the National stadium in Karachi was said to be the cause for the South Africans' decision.

PCB spokesman Samiul Hasan said Zia had also made it clear to Mani that if the ICC failed to intervene than Pakistan would be forced not to honour its commitments to countries who pull out of confirmed tours.

"We want to make the point the ICC and UCBSA must keep in mind the losses Pakistan cricket will suffer due to this act of the South Africans," Hasan said.

"We have already suffered because of the Indian government's reluctance to allow the Indian team to play with Pakistan.

"That has caused us losses to the tune of $30million. If other teams also do not visit Pakistan then the loss to Pakistan cricket will be unbearable," he said.
