Somerset paceman Richard Johnson has been called into England's Test squad for the tour of Bangladesh, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on Monday.
He replaces Lancashire seamer James Anderson who pulled out with a knee injury last week.
Johnson made a belated and successful Test debut in June at the age of 28 against Zimbabwe when he took six wickets in the first innings but missed much of the rest of the season, also with knee trouble.
He has been named ahead of Sussex's James Kirtley, who has a shin splints problem, and 34-year-old Martin Bicknell, whose age may have counted against him.
Johnson, who is getting married this weekend, said: "It was frustrating not being able to play in the Test series against South Africa this summer after making such a good start (against Zimbabwe) ... but I feel that I have a lot to offer in Test cricket and I'll be doing everything I can to make an impact in Bangladesh."
Anderson, 21, is expected to be available for the one-day series against Bangladesh and the following Test and one-day series in Sri Lanka. Johnson had already been named in the one-day squads for both tours.
England are playing Two tests and three one-dayers on the Bangladesh tour, which runs from October 12 to November 12. They then play Sri Lanka in three one-day internationals before a three-Test series from November 18 to December 22.
