Karnataka take first-innings lead

A century by V S Tilak Naidu helped hosts Karnataka reach 276 for six and take a 35-run lead in the first innings against Andhra in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A encounter in Bangalore on Sunday.

Resuming at the overnight score of 23 without loss, the hosts lost their first wicket when Robin Uthappa got run out to a brilliant throw from Prasad Reddy at short mid wicket, soon after the game began in the day.

Barrington M Rowland (37) and captain Sujith Somasundar (32) kept the score board ticking, while wicketkeeper Naidu scored 120 runs before he was out LBW off Mohammed Faiq.

Naidu, whose knock included 20 boundaries, was ably supported by Vijay Bharadwaj (33) and Stuart Binny (26) before he went past the ton.

Rowland was bowled off Y Venugopal Rao, while Somasundar was out (LBW) to a delivery off K S Shahabuddin.

Binny was caught by Pradeep A S at silly point off Kalyan Krishna D, while Bharadwaj was LBW to a delivery off A S K Verma.

Andhra were all out for 237 in their first innings.
