Australia's selectors named four newcomers in a list of 30 probables for the ICC Champions Trophy, in England in September.

The Champions Trophy is a competition yet to be won by the world beaters.

The youngsters making it to the initial squad include Jonathan Moss, Marcus North, Dominic Thornely and Damien Wright, all of whom have performed creditably at the domestic level.

Commenting on the squad which will be reduced to 14 by August 10, National Selection Panel chairman Trevor Hohns said whichever way the selectors decided to go, the eventual travelling party would contain sufficient depth for the one-day tournament, billed as the Mini World Cup.

"This is just the first step in selecting the squad to take part in the Champions Trophy, a tournament Australia has yet to win and one which is important in maintaining the country's status as the best one-day side in the world," he said in a statement.

"So far we have selected a healthy mix of players - batsmen, bowlers, all-rounders and two specialist wicket-keepers. It gives us a broad range to choose from when it comes to finalising the list."

Australia's first match of the ICC Champions Trophy is against the United States of America at the Rosebowl on September 13, followed by a clash with New Zealand three days later at The Oval.

Prior to the tournament, Australia will take on India and Pakistan in a tri-series competition in Holland. The tournament will incorporate three qualifying matches plus a final, all to be played in suburban Amstelveen, Amsterdam. All matches will be played as day games.

Probables: Andrew Bichel, Nathan Bracken, Michael Clarke, Adam Gilchrist, Jason Gillespie, Brad Haddin, Ian Harvey, Nathan Hauritz, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, Michael Hussey, Michael Kasprowicz, Simon Katich, Justin Langer, Brett Lee, Darren Lehmann, Jimmy Maher, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Jonathan Moss, Marcus North, Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds, Shaun Tait, Dominic Thornely, Shane Watson, Cameron White, Brad Williams and Damien Wright.
