Sri Lanka strolled to a five wicket win over Northern Territory on Sunday in their only warm-up match for next month's Test series against Australia.

Chasing 187 for victory, Sri Lanka reached their target after lunch on the fourth and final day for the loss of five wickets.

Tillakaratne Dilshan top scored with an unbeaten 66 to steer his side to victory while captain Mahela Jayawardena (26), Tilan Samaraweera (32) and Russel Arnold (34) all got starts.

The first Test against Australia starts on Thursday with the second beginning in Cairns a week later.

None of the Northern Territory bowlers was able to make any real impact with Australian paceman Glenn McGrath finishing with just two wickets from the match.

McGrath has been recalled to the national side for the Tests but is on notice from the national selectors that he needs to justify his inclusion after missing almost a year's cricket because of ankle problems.

McGrath took one for 25 off 14 overs in the second innings and despite his modest return of wickets he declared himself happy with his progress.

"I'm so much more confident and couldn't be happier at the moment," he told a news conference.

"That's the best my ankle has felt and the best I've hit the crease for the last 2-1/2 years and to me that was the secret to me bowling well."

Opening batsman Justin Langer said he was also impressed with McGrath's performance and predicted he would soon be back to his best.

"He hasn't bowled much for 12 months and I guess it's hard for a superstar to be patient," Langer said. "But it's like a Rolls Royce, you've got to be a bit patient, get the oil going."
