Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has expressed surprise at the batting heroics of Shoaib Akhtar in an English County Championship match and said he would write to the Durham county club to make sure that the fast bowler did not aggravate his injury, "if he has one".

As the news of Akhtar's gutsy batting display in his first appearance for Durham in a crucial match against Somerset in the English County Championship on Saturday reached him, the PCB chief expressed surprise that the Rawalpindi Express began playing so early despite claims of injury.

Batting at number nine, Akhtar made 46 which helped Durham register an impressive one wicket victory against Somerset.

Asked about Akhtar resuming cricket despite concerns about his injury, Khan told Geo TV on Sunday that Akhtar has to take care of his injury, "if he has one" and that he would write to Durham asking it to take care that his injury was not aggravated.

Akhtar escaped with a stern warning from the PCB after a medical inquiry failed to prove that the express pacer feigned injury during the Indian series.
