PCB makes huge profit from ticket sales

The Pakistan Cricket Board is richer by over 80 million rupees from just the sale of tickets on the historic India-Pakistan series last month, a senior PCB official confirmed.

The cumbersome process to reconcile the sale of tickets, including sales on the Internet to foreign nationals, is still in its final stages though, the official added.

"There is a lot of work and figures involved. We are still getting sale statements from the banks. We are also having to refund money to private organisations and clubs who made advance payments for bulk tickets, but these had to be withdrawn because of the high public demand.

"But initial reconciliation figures have shown that the earnings from just sale of tickets for the series is over eighty million," he disclosed.

The reconciliation process would also take into account tickets taken by Board officials for distribution to teams, match officials, corporate clients, government officials and to meet contractual commitments, he said.

"I can assure not a single ticket, except those to the teams and match officials, has been given on complimentary basis. The tickets we gave under our contractual obligations are also accounted for in the sponsorship contracts."

PCB sources had last week said that the reconciliation process was being held up because tickets worth approximately Rs 18 million, taken by Board officials for distribution by themselves, were still not accounted for.

"One thing is for sure the earnings from sale of tickets for the India series is much higher than even the last World Cup matches including the final we hosted in Pakistan," he claimed.
