West Indies coach Gus Logie has had his contract with the team "terminated by mutual consent", the West Indies Cricket Board has said.

Former West Indies batsman Logie was appointed to the job in 2003 and his contract was to run until June 2005.

"A mutual decision was reached and it was decided that his contract would be terminated on September 30," board spokesman Leonard Robertson said by telephone from Antigua on Tuesday.

Robertson said the board had been conducting interviews for a replacement for "about a month" and would make an announcement when they had made their choice.

"It will be sooner rather than later," he added.

The board was also "seeking the best candidate" and had interviewed international coaches.

They appointed Australian Cricket Academy head Bennett King as their coach, replacing Roger Harper, last year but he pulled out saying he wanted to stay in Australia.

Logie, who coached Canada at the 2003 World Cup in South Africa, was appointed in a temporary role for home series against Australia and Sri Lanka before being given the job in July 2003.

West Indies won just four of their 22 Tests under Logie and were thumped by England in successive home and away Test series this year.

The side, however, were better in one-day cricket winning 20 of 39 matches including beating England in the final of the Champions Trophy last month.

West Indies will play a triangular one-day series in Australia next January before hosting South Africa and Pakistan early next year.
