Sri Lanka were 361 for seven in their second innings, a lead of 91, at close of play on the fourth day of the second Test against Pakistan at Karachi on Sunday.

Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria claimed six wickets to effect a Sri Lankan batting collapse and put his team in a strong position heading into the final day.

Kaneria took 6 wickets for 102 as Sri Lanka put on a strong batting display with centuries from Kumara Sangakkara (138) and Sanath Jayasuriya (107).

Pakistan took a 270-run first innings lead when it made 478 after dismissing the tourists for 208 on the first day.

Medium fast bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan got his first Test wicket when Sangakkara got a thick outside edge seven overs before the close of play, giving Pakistan a sniff of a series-leveling victory after losing the first Test by 201 runs.

Kaneria picked up his fifth wicket of the innings two hours later when he removed Jehan Mubarak (2), before dismissing Romesh Kaluwitharana (7) as Sri Lanka lost four wickets in the last hour of the day.

When Sangakkara drove a straight four off Kaneria and moved to 26, he completed his 1000 runs in 2004. He joined his team mate Jayasuriya and the West Indian trio, Brian Lara, Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan in scoring more than 1000 runs this calendar year.
