The Pakistan Cricket Board rewarded skipper Inzamam-ul Haq and vice-captain Younis Khan for the team's fine performance in India by extending their tenure for another year.

"The PCB has decided to extend the terms of Inzamam-ul Haq as Pakistan captain and Younis Khan as vice-captain for another year," a PCB spokesman said after the conclusion of the ad-hoc committee meeting of the Board in Islamabad.

The PCB also decided to retain Saleem Altaf as manager of the team for next month's tour of the West Indies while the selection committee of Wasim Bari was given the mandate to announce the 16-man squad for the series.

Inzamam was earlier appointed captain till the West Indies tour while Younis had taken over from Yousuf Youhana for the Indian tour.

The extensions mean that the two would be at the helm of affairs when India tours Pakistan early next year.

"The PCB wants continuity and believes that Inzamam has matured as a captain. He is making a good combination with Younis and Bob Woolmer. As we set our sights on the 2007 World Cup, we take every decision in that spirit," the spokesman said.

Inzamam was pleased with the announcement and said the move would give his confidence a boost.

"It's a good news. The PCB wanted continuity and I also wanted the same. So, it's a win-win situation for both," the 35-year-old said.

"Captaincy is a big challenge and I am grateful to the PCB who have kept faith in me. I am learning the art of captainship and any support and assistance I get from the PCB will surely increase my confidence," Inzamam added from Lahore.

Altaf was named team manager for Pakistan's good performance in India where they held the hosts in the three-match Test series and won the one-day series 4-2.

"Considering Saleem Altaf's fine performance on the tour of India, the PCB is pleased to retain him as manager for the West Indies tour," the spokesman said.

"The Pakistan cricket team for the tour will be announced next Monday and the selection committee of Wasim Bari has been directed to select the squad in consultation with skipper Inzamam-ul Haq," he added.

Altaf, who played 22 Tests for Pakistan, was appointed PCB director, Cricket Operations on February 1. But since his appointment, he has spent more days on foreign tours rather than sitting in his Gaddafi stadium office and restructuring Pakistan cricket.

"The ad-hoc committee strongly felt that Saleem Altaf developed an excellent relationship with team members and that was one the major reasons for team's marvelous performance in India," the spokesman said.

"The PCB wants to retain the same combination because the West Indies tour is also very important as Pakistan has never won a series in the Caribbean."

The spokesman added the ad-hoc committee was briefed on the team's performance on the Indian tour. It was also informed on the fitness of Shoaib Akhtar.

Shoaib missed the India tour with a hamstring injury but is considered a certainty for West Indies tour.
