Sri Lanka's star spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan has said he wishes to play another three or four years before taking a break from international cricket.

Muralitharan is in South Africa to represent the Asian cricket XI against the African team in the Afro-Asia Cup, which includes three one-day internationals.

The first match will be played at Supersport Park in Pretoria on Wednesday.

"If I play for another three or four years and one year after the next World Cup I should take between 600 and 700 wickets", he said in an interview on the national SAFM radio sport programme, Game Plan.

Muralitharan said he believed that spinners would dominate world cricket over the next few years.

"Shane Warne is one of the greatest spinners and I believe that he will reach 700 wickets by the time he retires. Then of course there's Anil Kumble, who already has 450 wickets. He will have about 600 wickets by the time he calls it day. Then there Harbhajan, who is still young, and Daniel Vetori."

Muralitharan said he was happy to be playing in the Afro-Asian series to raise funds for the development of cricket, adding Sri Lankan cricketers had played a very big role in raising funds for the victims of Tsunami in Sri Lanka.

"We believe it's our duty to help people in need because they are the ones who make us great. Without them we will not be stars. Therefore, I was very happy to be involved in the Tsunami relief work and also happy to be here."

The star spinner said it was always very good to play in Durban where two of the Afro-Asian matches would be played at the weekend.
