Inzamam-ul-Haq became the 14th player in Test history to score more than 8,000 runs as his Pakistan side headed for victory over England on the fourth day of the third Test in Lahore on Friday.
The Pakistan captain, who resumed batting on 35 on Friday after having retired hurt on day two with a wrist injury, was run out three runs short of his 25th Test century as Pakistan ran up a huge total of 636 for eight declared.
The 35-year-old reached the milestone with the 45th run of his innings and his knock of 97 put him 12th in the all-time list of leading run scorers with 8,052 in 105 Tests.
He became only the second Pakistani batsman to score 8,000 runs after former captain Javed Miandad, who finished his career with 8,832 runs in 124 Tests.
Inzamam scored centuries in each innings of the second Test against England in Faisalabad to surpass Miandad's Pakistan record of 23 hundreds.
