The proposal to give official status to the Super Series matches will be put before the ICC Board for a second time after the Chief Executives' Committee once again endorsed the proposal on Thursday.
The Committee (CEC) had previously recommended official status for the three one-day matches to be held on October 5, 7 and 9 in Melbourne and the six-day Super Test starting on October 14 in Sydney but the ICC Board had rejected the proposal.
ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed said the decision by the Board to give official status to the World Cricket Tsunami Appeal match in Melbourne had prompted the CEC to ask the Board to reconsider its decision.
"In light of the decision to give official status to the World Cricket Tsunami Appeal match, there was a strong view from the Chief Executives' Committee that it should again recommend that the matches in the Johnnie Walker ICC Super Series have official status to the ICC Board," Speed was quoted as saying in a press release.
This recommendation will now go forward to the ICC Executive Board for its consideration at its March meeting in India.
In other business, the Committee, at its meeting in Melbourne, discussed the proposals to overhaul the way in which the game deals with bowlers with suspect illegal actions for several hours, hearing from the Chairman of the ICC's Cricket Committee Sunil Gavaskar, and ICC's General Manager David Richardson, on the proposals.
However, no decision was taken on the issue which will be discussed again on Friday.
The Committee also received a number of operational updates on upcoming ICC events including the ICC Champions Trophy 2006 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
The meeting resumes tomorrow when the discussions will continue on the topic of dealing with suspect illegal actions.
The CEC will also consider a review of alternatives to the Duckworth/Lewis system for dealing with rain interrupted matches, a number of development-related issues besides discussions on Twenty20 cricket.
