Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been fined $500 for breach of contract during the recent tour of Australia.

The disciplinary committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) headed by Justice Amir Alam Khan imposed the fine after a hearing held on Thursday in which the player appeared in person.

"The disciplinary committee told Shoaib they are not satisfied with some of the answers he had given to the four charges of contractual violations by him in Australia," a Pakistan board source said on Thursday.

The 29-year-old was charged with visiting nightclubs, issuing press statements without management permission and returning late from Australia despite board instructions.

Shoaib, who has taken 144 Test and 186 one-day wickets, is also doubtful for the tour of India as he is carrying a hamstring strain which he sustained in the third Test in Sydney in early January.

The Board is holding fitness trials on Saturday to determine the fitness of Shoaib, Mohammad Sami, Muhammad Khalil and Shabbir Ahmed for the Indian tour.

While Sami returned home from Australia with a heel injury, Khalil dislocated his shoulder during a collision with Rana Naved on the field in a VB tri-series match.

Shabbir has been out of action since last September after undergoing surgery for a knee problem.
