Inzamam-ul Haq's days as skipper may be numbered with President Pervez Musharraf reportedly directing the Pakistan Cricket Board to start looking for a replacement.

Musharraf, who reviewed the performance of the team on the current tour of Australia in a meeting with PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan on Monday, is believed to have given his go-ahead for making necessary changes in the team management, local daily 'The News' reported on Tuesday.

"Naming the captain, manager and making other adjustments in the PCB set up is in the offing following the meeting between Musharraf and Khan yesterday," the report said.

PCB's Media Advisor Abbas Zaidi, however, denied any plans were afoot to change the captain.

"As far as my information is concerned, the President has not asked for any change in captaincy," he said.

Inzamam, who had earlier hinted at quitting his post, denied reports that he was considering to resign in the wake of the poor performance by his team on the Australian tour.

"From where these stories have come I am amazed. I want to make it clear that I never told anyone I was thinking about stepping down as captain after the Australia tour, and secondly I am keen to continue as captain till the West Indies tour," the newspaper quoted him as saying.

"I have a contract with PCB which has appointed me as captain for the tours to India and the West Indies. After this it has to be seen if the Board wants to continue with me as captain or if I want to remain captain," Inzamam said.

"What I did say in an interview was that I was upset and unhappy with the present state of affairs as we have not been performing well in Australia and there have been off-field controversies as well.

"I said it was one of the toughest series for me as captain and I was uncertain about my future. I did also say that I was upset with the criticism aimed at me and the team," he said.
