The two-member Venue Assessment team from Pakistan inspected the Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali -- the venue for the first India-Pakistan Test -- and described the facilities as "excellent and very impressive".

The team, comprising Zakir Khan, general manager (Cricket Operations) of the Pakistan Cricket Board, and Sohail Khan, senior Superintendent of Police, Lahore, was taken around the PCA stadium by association treasurer G S Walia on Tuesday.

Later, talking to reporters, Zakir Khan said they had come to inspect the facilities, including playing conditions and security, which has become common practice for visiting teams and "a part of the cricket family system".

He declined to comment about Ahmedabad being named to host the second Test.

Sohail Khan, echoing the same views, added that reports of Pakistan being averse to playing at Ahmedabad were speculation by the media.

"It has all been generated by the press. We will talk to the local administration in Ahmedabad and the final decision will be taken by the two Boards."

The team now heads for Kolkata, where it will meet officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, before leaving for other centres in the East.

India and Pakistan are to play three Tests and five One-Day Internationals, the dates for which are yet to be finalized. The BCCI has, however, short-listed the venues, subject to approval by the PCB.

Zakir Khan, also a former cricketer, said the basic facilities, including dressing room, ground and pitches had been inspected.

"All of these are of highest quality," he said.

He also said there is a great deal of interest among fans for the Mohali match for which they planned to cross the border.

"I am sure the twin towns of Mohali and Chandigarh would be able to handle the visitors. It will generate goodwill between the people of the two countries," he added.

PCA secretary M P Pandove said his association is ready to make extra arrangements, including an exclusive block in the stadium, for about 5,000 visitors from across the border.

Sohail Khan said that they would not be giving any direction or orders to the local security authorities.

"We will only be coordinating. We will ask them about their assessment of local level threats," Sohail Khan said, adding that the interaction is aimed at having "better liaisoning ".
