Boje in a 'fix' on India tour

South African vice-captain Nicky Boje made it clear that he would tour India later this year only if he gets an undertaking that he would not be prosecuted on charges of match-fixing.

The spinner's reaction, in an interview with local daily Die Volksblad, came after reports that the United Cricket Board of South Africa had asked the South African High Commission in New Delhi to obtain the assurance from the Indian Police that Boje and Herschelle Gibbs would not be arrested or questioned on the match-fixing scandal.

The two players are alleged to have been involved with the late Hansie Cronje in match-fixing with Indian book-makers during South Africa's tour in 2000.

UCB CEO Gerald Majola said if they do not receive the undertaking, the players themselves would have to decide whether they wanted to travel to India in November to participate in a five-match one-day international series.

Last year, the duo had completed a questionnaire from the Indian Police before South Africa's two-match Test series in India. But since the cops did not give any undertaking the players refused to join the South African tour party.

Reports in Durban indicate that if they refuse to travel again, Gibbs would be replaced by promising young player AB de Villiers, and Boje by Boeta Dippenaar.
