MCA refutes misadministration claims

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday vehemently denied allegations of commissions and omissions levelled against its functioning by its former coach Chandrakant Pandit and last season's captain Sairaj Bahutule.

Terming the charges, that the MCA had not treated the duo with dignity, were framed on proverbial "sour grapes", its joint secretary Lalchand Rajput said the allegations did not hold water.

Refuting the charge, Rajput said in Mumbai that Bahutule and Pandit -- who complained about wicket preparations last season -- did not do so when Mumbai won the title in the previous two seasons.

"Why didn't they raise the issue when they were winning? We had called for a meeting of the managing committee with captain, coach and curator and the duo didn't turn up," he said.

"I asked them to give their complaint in writing, but they did not give it. I can't take action on my own as I am answerable to the managing committee," Rajput explained.

Rajput said the main grouse of Bahutule against the Association was that he was not given match fees in the Ranji Trophy match against Delhi after he pulled out because of a hamstring injury and had to be replaced in the 15 itself.

"Still we gave him daily allowance for the duration of the match," the ex-India opening batsman said.

The allegations by Bahutule and Pandit were aired a couple of days after MCA officials announced they were introducing graded payments for its players on the basis of seniority and number of matches played.
