Pacemen Lee, Jones in doubt

Australia and England could both be without a leading pace bowler when they meet in a triangular series one-day international at Bristol on Sunday, with Brett Lee and Simon Jones both in doubt.

Lee, who has a shoulder problem, is "very unlikely" to play in the match or in Saturday's game against Bangladesh, according to Australia coach John Buchanan.

A scan on Thursday revealed no major damage and a specialist suggested the injury may have been a reaction to bruising on the shoulder after Lee was hit by a ball from England's Andrew Flintoff while batting in Monday's Twenty20 match.

Lee pulled up while bowling in Australia's limited-overs defeat against Somerset on Wednesday.

"I am relieved there is no major damage and I am looking forward to playing for Australia in this upcoming series," Lee was quoted as saying by the Cricinfo.com.

Buchanan added: "I think it would be very unlikely that Brett would be playing over the weekend.

"Lee felt a bit of soreness in the shoulder so even if it is good news we would probably err on the side of caution."

Jones, meanwhile, is to undergo a scan on Friday after injuring his right knee during the warm-up before Thursday's game against Bangladesh at The Oval.

England captain Michael Vaughan said after his side's 10-wicket win that he did not know how bad Jones's injury was.

The fast bowler ruptured ligaments in the same knee on the Ashes tour to Australia in 2002-3 and did not play for England again for 15 months.

Australia have lost their last two games, against England in their inaugural Twenty20 match on Monday and then against Somerset. They take on Bangladesh in Cardiff on Saturday in their opening triangular match before meeting England.
