Captain Michael Vaughan retired hurt with a knee injury as England set Pakistan 'A' a victory target of 245 on the second day of their three-day tour match.
Pakistan 'A' were on 31 for one wicket at close of play on Monday, with Imran Farhat unbeaten on 12 and Shahid Nazir on nought.
Matthew Hoggard had Taufeeq Umar caught behind by Geraint Jones for 15.
England scored 256 with a much improved batting performance after being dismissed for 126 in their first innings.
Vaughan left the field after facing just one ball and had a scan on his knee, the results of which should be known by Tuesday.
A third-wicket stand of 113 from Paul Collingwood (61) and Andrew Strauss (56) lifted England after Marcus Trescothick (1) and Kevin Pietersen (0) were dismissed to make it 10 for two.
Collingwood, who hit six fours and four sixes in his 70-ball innings, and Strauss batted with aplomb. The partnership was broken when Shahid Nazir had Strauss caught behind.
In the next over, 19-year-old leg spinner Mansoor Amjad took his first wicket when Collingwood mistimed a heave through mid-wicket to be caught by Nazir.
Andrew Flintoff showed glimpses of his strokeplay when he smashed two sixes and four boundaries in 28 from 19 balls before he was also caught by Nazir off Amjad.
Ashley Giles chipped in with 49, including nine fours, and put on 58 runs with Jones before the wicketkeeper was dismissed by Amjad on 30.
Amjad also picked up the wickets of Shaun Udal and Hoggard to finish with figures of five for 97. Pace bowler Mohammad Asif took 3-44 to end with match figures of 10 for 106 runs.
