Inzamam-ul-Haq equalled the record for the number of Test centuries by a Pakistan player when he scored his 23rd hundred during the second Test against England in Faisalabad on Monday.
Inzamam, 35, made 109 to match former captain Javed Miandad's record before being run out by Steve Harmison.
"I always knew that Inzamam would set new records because he is a naturally gifted player and a fine batter against the fast bowlers," Miandad said.
"Records are there to be equalled and broken and I think Inzamam can easily go on to score many more hundreds and runs for Pakistan. He has the talent and experience," said Miandad, who was Pakistan coach until June 2004.
Miandad, 48, scored 8,832 runs in 124 Tests for Pakistan before retiring in 1996.
Inzamam has scored 7,855 runs in 104 Tests. His hundred was his fourth against England and his third in his last seven innings for Pakistan. He also has 10,971 runs in 347 one-day internationals.
The Pakistan captain was out in controversial circumstances when bowler Harmison picked up the ball and hit the stumps with Inzamam moving away to take evasive action. Third umpire Nadeem Ghouri ruled Inzamam's foot was not in the crease at the time of impact.
