On yet another truncated day, Gujarat were bowled out for 159 in their first innings on the penultimate day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A' match against former champions Tamil Nadu at the India Cements grounds in Tirunveli on Friday.
Resuming at the first day's total of 110 for four, after the second day was washed out yesterday, the Tamil Nadu bowlers took just 89 minutes to polish off the innings as the visitors added only 49 runs in 17.3 overs this morning, before being all out.
In reply, Tamil Nadu were 28 for one, when rain prevented any further play after lunch.
Left arm medium pacer R Naresh triggered the collapse with a triple strike, reducing Gujarat from 116 for four to 143 for seven.
He started the slide, removing Bhavik Thakkar (20), who did not add to his first day's score, and clean bowled H Watekar (0), before getting rid of skipper Mukund Parmar, who scored 26 runs (2x4).
However, extras contributed the maximum runs -- 46 -- to the total.
Parmar, resuming on 15, plodded on for a while, consuming 118 balls during his 169-minute stint at the crease before Naresh induced an edge to wicketkeeper Dinesh Kaarthick.
Siddarth Trivedi shone briefly (17, 24 balls, 2x4, 1x6) before he was stumped by Kaarthick of Vidyut, who picked up two wickets.
In reply, Tamil Nadu lost opener Anirudha Srikkanth (13) in the fifth over and were at 28 for one, before rain played spoilsport.
The umpires called off the day's play at 1530 hrs.
