ICC considers 6-day Tests in Pakistan

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is willing to consider six-day Tests in Pakistan to ensure completion of the regulatory 450 overs during the winter season.

ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed said on Wednesday that the ICC would be keen to look at such a proposal to beat the problem of reduced overs in tests in Pakistan.

The Test series between Pakistan and England has been badly affected by bad light with 32 overs lost on the first two days of the third Test in Lahore.

England need to win the final Test to level the three-match series and maintain their record of not having lost a series for two years.

The teams lost 13 overs on the first day and 19 on the second as England pushed for a victory.

Speed said the problem of overs lost in Test matches was peculiar to Pakistan at this time of the year.

"It is something we have to look at because getting a full quota of overs in a Test is the main priority for us," he said.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan said the PCB had hoped the use of floodlights in Lahore would allow the full 90 overs to be bowled in a day in the third test.

"Unfortunately, the lights and the red ball have not matched," Khan said. "But we can't have our cricket season at any other time of the year. We have to play our season between Oct to April.

"Playing at any other time would not be fair to visiting teams because of the hot weather," he said.

Shaharyar said Pakistan would definitely be approaching the ICC to look at the prospect of allowing six-day Tests in winter.

"It is a possibility we are game to consider," he said.

Around 60 overs were lost in the drawn second Test in Faisalabad.
