Kevin Pietersen scooped two major individual honours on Tuesday as England's Ashes winning team dominated the International Cricket Council's (ICC) annual awards.

Kevin PietersenPietersen beat his English team mate Andrew Flintoff to win the one-day international player of the year award and was also named as the emerging player of the year.

The pair were also included in the World XI one-day team while England won the spirit of cricket award.

"Michael Vaughan's side has enjoyed considerable success on the field during the voting period and this award shows they have done so by upholding the traditional values of the game," ICC president Ehsan Mani said.

Pietersen, who made his test debut in the first Ashes Test against Australia before the 12-month voting period closed on July 31, was a runaway winner of the first two individual awards.

"I'm flattered. I honestly didn't think I was going to get this award," Pietersen said.

The 25-year-old South African-born Pietersen played 21 one-day internationals and a single Test in his first full year.

He averaged 87.33 in limited-overs internationals, including three hundreds, as well as making two half-centuries in his lone test appearance. He also scored his maiden test hundred in the final Ashes match with Australia after the voting period had closed.

"This award is a demonstration of the impact Kevin Pietersen has had on international cricket in his first year at the highest level," ICC chief executive officer Malcolm Speed said in a statement.

England all rounder Flintoff, one of five nominations for the top prize as cricketer of the year, finished second in the one-day player of the year voting with Australia's Andrew Symonds third.

South African wicketkeeper-batsman AB de Villiers was runner-up as emerging player of the year with England batsman Ian Bell third.
