• Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground in Indore became the 39th Indian ground to host a one-day international. The previous nine ODIs in Indore were all played at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Indore also became the seventh city in India (after Ahmedabad, Delhi, Baroda, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad) to use two different grounds for ODIs.

• Robin Uthappa, who became 165th player to represent India in one-day internationals, achieved the highest score by an Indian debutant. His 86 (off 96 balls) bettered Brijesh Patel's 82 against England at Leeds on 13-07-1974. Fellow teammate Yuvraj Singh had scored 84 in his very first ODI innings against Australia at Nairobi on 07-10-2000, but it was in his second match having not batted in the first match.

• Dinesh Karthik was making a comeback into Indian side after a gap of about 18 months. He had last played for India against Kenya at Southampton on 11-09-2004. Karthik thus missed 42 matches in between his two consecutive appearances.

• Andrew Strauss and James Anderson were both playing their 50th game. A total of 31 players have now represented England in 50 or more matches.

• VRV Singh conceded 26 runs in his second over (18th of England innings). The sequence- [6,4,4 (no ball),1,1 (no ball),0,4,4]. 24 runs came off the bat with Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell scoring 23 and one respectively.

• VRV Singh now holds the record of sending down most expensive over by an Indian along with Anil Kumble, who had achieved this dubious feat against Pakistan at Madras on 21-05-1997. [Against England at Jullundur (Jalandhar) on 20-12-1981, England's total had been advanced by 26 runs by one Ravi Shastri over, however Shastri had conceded only 24 himself as there were two byes in the over]

• Kevin Pietersen continued his splendid batting form in the series. His scores in the series read as: 46 at Delhi, 71 at Faridabad, 77 at Kochi, 33 at Jamshedpur and 64 at Indore -- an aggregate of 291 runs at an average of 58.20.

• Paul Collingwood (64) completed his 2,000 runs in one-day internationals in his 91st match. Collingwood became 15th Englishman to reach this landmark.

• S Sreesanth (6-55) became only the fourth Indian bowler (on fifth occasion) to capture six wickets in a match. His figures are now the best by an Indian against England at home and second best in all matches after Ashish Nehra's six for 23 in 2003 World Cup game. Overall this is the fourth best performance by an Indian bowler in all ODIs.

• VRV Singh, by getting carted for 73 runs in his 7 overs, achieved the second worst figures by an Indian bowler in a seven-over spell in ODIs. Only Ravi Shastri has conceded more for India -- 77 v West Indies at Jamshedpur on 07-12-1983. VRV, however, can take some solace from the fact that he is not alone in achieving this dubious distinction. Kapil Dev and Venkatesh Prasad had also once conceded 73 runs each -- v Pakistan at Lahore on 31-12-1982 and v Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 29-10-2000 respectively.

• Yuvraj Singh (63*) completed his 4,000 runs in one-day internationals in his 148th match. He became ninth Indian to achieve this milestone.

• As many as four batsmen - Uthappa (86), Dravid (69), Yuvraj (63*) and Raina (53) crossed fifty in the Indian innings during their successful chase. This provided only the third instance for India when four batsmen scored fifties in the same innings. The other two instances were v Australia at Delhi on 22-10-1987 (in World Cup) and v Bangladesh at Dhaka on 27-12-2004.

• The three fifties earlier in the England's total took the tally of fifties in the match to seven, which equals the existing ODI record. Only twice before seven fifties were scored in a match by both sides. The occasions were:           Eng (3) v Pak (4) at Lahore on 10-12-2005
  Aus (4) v SA (3) at Johannesburg on 12-03-2006

• England's series loss (1-5) to India is their second worst performance in a bilateral series of five matches or more. In all England have played 14 bilateral series of five or more matches. They have won three and drawn four. In remaining seven series, England lost three (v WI in 1993-94, v NZ in 2001-02 & v Pak in 2005-06) by 2-3 margin and two by 1-4 margin (v West Indies in 1997-98 & v South Africa in 2004-05). In 1995-96 England lost to South Africa in South Africa 1-6 in a seven match series, which is the only better performance by any side against England than this Indian performance.

• Rahul Dravid now enjoys the highest winning percentage among all Indian captains who have captained the side in at least five matches. The Indore ODI was 37th for Dravid as captain. His captaincy record after the match reads as: Won 23, Lost 13 and No-result 1. His winning percentage of 62.16 displaces Ajay Jadeja from the top slot. Jadeja had a winning percentage of 61.54 from 13 games (8 wins and 5 losses).

• Dravid's tally of 23 wins is now the fourth highest among all Indian captains after Azharuddin (90), Ganguly (76), Kapil Dev (39) and Tendulkar (23). Interestingly Tendulkar played just about double games (73 as against Dravid's 37) to register 23 wins.

• India registered their 16th consecutive win batting second.

• S Sreesanth won his maiden man of the match award in his 13th match.

• Yuvraj Singh won his third man of the series award. Interestingly all of these three awards have come in three consecutive series -- v South Africa in India in November 2005, v Pakistan in Pakistan in February 2006 and now v England.
