The first One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka, at the Sinhalese Sports Club, on Friday, was called off due to inclement weather.
India, who won the toss and elected to bat, were 11 for no loss when the umpires decided to abandon play. The match will resume on Saturday at 1000 IST.
Skipper Rahul Dravid was batting on nine and Sachin Tendulkar, returning to internationl cricket after nearly five months, was unbeaten on 2.
The game was into the fourth over when bad light forced the players off the field. But minutes later, the heavy dark clouds that were hovering above burst open and left puddles on the ground, mainly along the boundary line.
The ground staff which had worked tirelessly during the day to get the match started had placed the covers on the playing square, but the rain struck before they could cover the outfield.
The boundary had been brought forward to exclude the soggy outer region.

he match started four-and-a-half hours behind schedule because of a wet outfield following heavy rain in the morning. After an inspection of the ground the umpires said play would begin at 1430 IST and continue until 1800 hours.India and Sri Lanka are playing a three-match series after South Africa, citing security concerns, pulled out of the triangular series that was earler scheduled and returned home on Thursday.
