The first one-day international between Pakistan and West Indies was abandoned due to torrential rain on Tuesday.

Schedule: West Indies in Pak

Umpires Daryl Harper and Aleem Dar called off the match after an early morning inspection of the ground and pitch, which was badly affected by the water.

"The umpires asked the curator if he could hand them over the ground in three hours time but he said this would not be possible despite the rains having stopped," Pakistan cricket Board spokesman Naushad Ali said.

"They have called off the match due to wet conditions of the ground and square," he added.

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq will be able to play the second game in Faisalabad after completing the four-match ban imposed on him by the International cricket Council (ICC).

Inzamam was banned for bringing the game into disrepute during the Oval Test against England in August.

"The match referee has confirmed from the ICC that this abandoned match would be counted and Inzamam's ban is now completed," board official Azhar Khan said.

Inzamam missed the three games Pakistan played in the Champions Trophy in India.

The second of five scheduled one-dayers is due to take place in Faisalabad on Thursday.
