Contrary to the Board of Control for Cricket in India's claims that Jagmohan Dalmiya will give up his post as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal -- the veteran administrator has kept the options open on his exit.

N Srinivasan, treasurer of the BCCI, which last week had expelled him on charges of financial irregularities, said CAB secretary Sardindu Pal had told the working committee meeting that they would respect the Board's decision on Dalmiya.

"He also said that Mr Dalmiya no longer functions as its president and an emergency meeting has been convened on the 27th [January] to take steps to implement the BCCI's decision," Srinivasan said after the working committee meeting.

Reacting to the BCCI's claim, Dalmiya said that he still continues to be CAB president but would not hesitate to put in his papers if he saw the organisation suffering because of him.

"I will see to it that CAB does not suffer because of me. If at any moment of time I feel that CAB is suffering, I will not hesitate to resign," said Dalmiya, who has been expelled for life by the BCCI.

"But at this moment, I am definitely the CAB president," he said.

Dalmiya, who had been re-elected president of the CAB in July in a high-voltage poll, however, did not give a categorical answer when asked whether he planned to step down only after his term was over.

"How can I say such things now? It will depend on how the situation emerges."
