The Indian under-19 team put up a fine all-round display to beat their English counterparts by nine wickets to claim the three-match one-day international series 2-0 at Sofia Gardens in Cardiff.

England's decision to bat first proved disastrous as they were bowled out for a paltry 164 in 44.5 overs.

Ishant Sharma rocked the England top order, claiming three wickets including the first ball dismissal of hosts' skipper Varun Chopra.

Ishant kept striking at regular intervals to break the back of English middle order, which struggled to come to terms against the visitors' bowling attack.

Adam Lyth was England's top scorer with 36, but he too had his stumps disturbed by Ishant.

Mark Nelson (26) and Ben Wright (23) also got off to good starts, but failed to convert it to a big score as their team was eventually bundled out for 164.

The innings ended in drama when Yo Mahesh claimed a hat-trick to remove the last three England wickets.

Chasing the modest target, the tourists lost just one wicket as they romped home with more than 20 overs to spare.

Aziz Parveez provided the fireworks for India, smashing a 55-ball 79 before holing out to Andrew Miller off Moeen Ali to become the only casualty of the innings.

Aziz's innings included 15 hits to the fence.

Wicketkeeper Uday Kaul (58 not out) and Sumit Sharma (23 not out) saw the tourists home as they posted 165 for one in 29.2 overs to claim the series.

The third and final match will be played on Friday.

Brief scores:

England under-19: 164 all out in 44.5 overs (Adam Lyth 36, Ishant Sharma 3-30, V Yo Mahesh 3-29) lost to India under-19: 165 for one in 29.2 overs (Aziz Parveez 79, Uday Kaul 58 not out)
