Inclement weather washed out the final day of an intriguingly poised four-day Top End tour match between the 'A' sides of Australia and India.

No play was possible on the final day at the Cazalys Stadium in Cairns forcing umpires Paul Reiffel and Bob Parry to call off the day shortly after lunch.

India 'A' was set to resume at 117 for no loss, needing 365 more runs for victory, after openers Robin Uthappa (67) and Gautam Gambhir (40) saw off the Australian quicks during the final session of day three.

Australia 'A' opener Phil Jaques was named man of the match for scoring two centuries in the match.

The left-hander, who made his Test debut last summer, made a stunning case for a recall with 240 in the first innings and a quickfire 117 in the second essay.

His second knock came on the same day his rival for an Ashes berth, Justin Langer blasted 234 not out from 279 balls in the English County Championship.

India 'A' were on the backfoot after they were bowled out for 254 in their first innings in reply to the home side's score of 461 for four declared.

Australia 'A' decided against enforcing the follow on and went for quick runs declaring at 274 for seven in 48 overs, setting the visitors a mammoth target of 482 in the final innings of the match.

The Indian openers got off to a solid start on the third evening and an exciting day of cricket was in the offing on the final day, but the weather proved a dampener.
