England captain Michael Vaughan, continuing to struggle with an injured right knee, will see a specialist on Thursday.
Vaughan has not played for his country since returning home from India in March.
He had surgery on his knee in December and made his comeback for county side Yorkshire at the end of May but soreness in the joint prevented him from fielding in the match against Sussex last week.
An England Cricket Board statement on Tuesday said: "Following a meeting between medical staff from Yorkshire and England yesterday, it has been decided that Michael Vaughan should be referred to a specialist on Thursday for a further assessment of his injured right knee."
Vaughan missed the Test series with Sri Lanka which ended 1-1.
The Lankans lead the one-dayers 3-0 with two games left.
England start a four-Test series against Pakistan on July 13.
