Test opener Wasim Jaffer expressed surprise over Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Niranjan Shah's statement that he had asked permission to play charity games in Saudi Arabia.

"I don't know what you are talking about. I have not got any information about any charity games in Saudi Arabia," Jaffer said on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Shah had said that Jaffer and two other India cricketers, V V S Laxman and Gautam Gambhir, have been cleared by the Board to play the charity games, organised by former Test off-spinner Shivlal Yadav, in the middle of May.

"VVS Laxman, Wasim Jaffer and Gautam Gambhir had approached the Board for permission to play a few charity games in Saudi Arabia, being organised by (former Test off-spinner) Shivlal Yadav, and the Board has given them permission," Shah had said.

Jaffer had undergone surgery on his shin four weeks ago and is recuperating.

"It's [the healing] progressing well and I am in touch with (Team India physio) John Gloster," he said.

The trio have not been included in the Indian squad for the five-match one-day international series in the West Indies, commencing on May 18.
