Amid speculation that Yuvraj Singh has been ruled out of the World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India said the situation with regard to his injury remains unchanged and the left-hander's fitness will be reassessed as scheduled, on November 13.

BCCI's Chief Administrative Officer Ratnakar Shetty said a decision on the middle-order batsman's return to action will only be made after the fitness test is conducted.

"As far as I know his fitness test would be held on the date fixed earlier," Shetty said on Tuesday.

Former India physio Andrew Leipus had suggested earlier in the day that Yuvraj could miss the World Cup.

The 24-year-old, a key middle-order batsman, tore ligaments in his left knee playing on the eve of the Champions Trophy clash against eventual winners Australia in Mohali on Oct. 29.

Yuvraj injured his left knee while playing kho-kho on the eve of India's crucial Champions Trophy match against Australia on October 29. An MRI scan suggested a tear in the cruciate ligament and bruises in the knee joint.

"It will be touch and go for the World Cup because of the length of time it takes to recover from such an injury," Leipus said.

"My understanding is he will have to undergo surgery as the torn ligament needs to be reconstructed."

Leipus was India's physio for five years until 2004 and now works as a consultant.

The Punjab player, who has featured in 159 one-dayers and 19 Tests, has grown in stature as an aggressive batsman and superb fielder in the point region.

He was nominated for the ICC One-day Player of the Year award, which was won last week by Australia's Mike Hussey.

The Punjab batsman, who has been ruled out of action for at least two weeks, will miss India's one-day series in South Africa, starting November 13.
