Bravo hits ton in drawn match

Dwayne Bravo hit a powerful hundred as captain Brian Lara shunned an opportunity to get some batting practice in the drawn two-day tour match against a PCB Patrons XI in Lahore on Thursday.

West Indies ended on 279 for five in reply to the local side's 305 for four declared that included a hundred by Pakistan's discarded opener Salman Butt on the first day.

Bravo was in brilliant touch throughout his 114-ball, quickfire 108 runs, hitting 15 boundaries and two sixes in the session between lunch and tea at the Bagh-e-Jinnah ground.

He was eventually retired out but that did not encourage Lara to come out to bat.

Lara, 37, has carried a back strain that forced him to bat lower down the order in the ICC Champions Trophy in India.

West Indies rested senior batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul for the game while opener Chris Gayle could not play due to a stomach bug.

Bravo, however, entertained the crowd as only Darren Ganga got much practice with 42 in facing 82 balls and his partner Runako Morton made 21 in a slow stand of 50 on a placid pitch.

Bravo put on 122 runs for the fourth wicket with the uncapped Lendl Simmons who made 40 as the match ended 14 overs before the scheduled close due to bad light.

The first Test starts on Saturday in Lahore.
