Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday became the world's most capped One-Day International player when he turned out against England in the ICC Champions Trophy match in Jaipur.

Tendulkar, who played in his 368th ODI match on Sunday, surpassed Pakistan skipper Inzazmam-ul Haq and Sri Lankan veteran Sanath Jayasuriya, both of whom have played one match less till date.

The trio of ODI veterans is engaged in a neck and neck fight for the slot, all three having held the record from time to time.

Tendulkar, who made his debut against Pakistan at Gujranwala in 1989, had achieved this feat for the first time at the Eden Gardens against South Africa last year. Tendulkar, while playing his 357th match, had surpassed former Pakistan all-rounder Wasim Akram.

Tendulkar had since fallen behind with injuries keeping him out of ODIs, and the top slot rotated between Jayasuriya and Inzamam.

Inzamam became the most-capped player in September this year when he appeared in his 364th ODI versus England at Rose Bowl.

The burly right-hander surpassed Jayasuriya's record. Tendulkar was 363 ODIs old then and could have reclaimed the spot in the DLF cup in Malaysia had India reached the final.
