Australia leg-spinner Stuart MacGill has been banned for two weeks following a row with an umpire during a club game at the weekend.

MacGill will miss New South Wales's match against Queensland starting next week at the Gabba in Brisbane, the venue for the first Ashes Test against England, beginning on November 23.

MacGill pleaded guilty to the charges of improper conduct but his appeal against the length of the ban was rejected.

The 35-year-old MacGill has taken 198 wickets in 40 Tests despite often competing for a place in the team with fellow leg spinner Shane Warne, Test cricket's leading wicket taker.
