Sourav Ganguly says he is not dejected by his omission from the Champions Trophy squad and would now focus on his performance in domestic cricket to give himself another chance of a comeback.

The former India captain said the decision to keep him out of the team did not come as a surprise as the selectors could not have made changes to the one-day side that toured Sri Lanka last month, as no matches were played there.

"Actually everybody expected it yesterday because they had picked the squad for Sri Lanka but not a single ball was bowled in the tournament. So, obviously, it would have been difficult to replace players and quite naturally they stuck with the same 15," Ganguly told Times Now.

"So, the question of dejection does not arise. The 15 which have been picked yesterday had to be picked because the boys did not get the opportunity in Colombo," he added.

Asked if his average of the last few months could have been a factor for his exclusion, he replied, "These are things of the past. Selectors have a certain idea, that's the way they are proceeding and we will have to wait and see what happens."

But Ganguly insisted that he is still hopeful of returning to the team.

"The World Cup is a long way off. There is some cricket before that. The team has been selected for the Champions Trophy and the tour of Malaysia. I am looking forward to the domestic season -- play Duleep Trophy, Ranji Trophy and (in) whatever opportunities I get. I will try and score some runs and see what happens."
