Faced with the uphill task of winning their last two league matches to secure a place in the tri-series final, India coach Greg Chappell sought to ease the pressure on his players by telling them to focus only on Wednesday's encounter against the West Indies.

Chappell said it is important to put up a good performance and win the next match rather than worry about the second game.

"We don't have to think about winning the two consecutive matches... but we have to win the first one first," he told reporters on Tuesday.

"We have to put together a good performance for the first one and then we will worry about the second. If we start looking too far ahead we will make mistakes," he said.

The West Indies' shock victory over Australia in Monday's match left India with no option but win their remaining league matches.

Chappell said the team for Wednesday's match is not finalized.

"(But) There will be some changes, though not big changes," he said.

He said the West Indies are doing quite well.

"That's good for them, but we are more worried about we doing well," he added.

Chappell also acknowledged that constant attempts are being made to strike the best combination.

"It is a good opportunity for us to put up a team for future matches. We are trying to make the team better. We are using bowlers in different positions, we are using batters in different positions.

"We have to get the team to become more versatile before the World Cup," he said.

On Irfan Pathan's performance, Chappell said he had to try different things and look at different roles in the team.

"He is doing a different role for us at the moment," he said.

"At some stage we probably have a few players who are not at their peak at the moment. You won't have everybody in their best form all at the same time.

"Teams go through that, players go through that. If you look at other teams around the world they face similar things; it is a concern, but it is not something we are losing sleep over," he added.

Asked if a decision to field could be taken if India wins the toss, taking into account the unpredictable rain, Chappell said the conventional wisdom suggested batting first in a day-and-night game is good.

"But it depends if there are things you want to work on; but at the moment we are quite happy batting first if we win the toss," he added.

On Australia's decision to rotate its players, he said: "It is not a big issue whom they play; it is who we put. We will worry about Australia when we get there.

"We need to play well and we should be in the best frame of mind."

It did not rain on Monday, and hasn't so far on Tuesday.
