Sri Lanka were 102 for 3 when rain interrupted play in the first One-Day International against India at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.

Sanath Jayasuriya was batting on 63 and Marvan Atapattu was on 5 when a steady drizzle forced the players to return to the pavilion.

Munaf Patel claimed two of the wickets to fall, after Jayasuriya got the Lankans off to a good start, first bowling Upul Tharanga in the sixth over and then having Mahela Jayawardene caught at mid-on by Dravid in the eighth before he could score.

S Sreesanth claimed the third wicket, when Kumar Sangakkara was caught behind.

Earlier, India skipper Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to field. Yuvraj Singh, Ajit Agarkar and Irfan Pathan, all nursing injuries, and veteran leg spinner Anil Kumble were absent from the Indian line-up.

The hosts opted for a bowling attack of three seamers and specialist off-spinner Harbhajan Singh. Virender Sehwag returned to the side after missing last month's one-day series against the West Indies because of poor form.

Sri Lanka also included three fast bowlers and a lone specialist spinner in Malinga Bandara.
