With Marlon Samuels' alleged links with a bookie threatening to snowball into a major match-fixing scandal, the International Cricket Council on Friday decided to send a special team to Nagpur to investigate the matter.
The team, mainly comprising of ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit officials, will be in Nagpur by Monday and will have detailed discussions with the Nagpur police, according to a top Board of Control for Cricket in India source.
"We have received a communication that a team from ICC will be going to Nagpur. We are ready to cooperate in the investigations," the source said.
During their stay in Nagpur, the ACU officials will also interact with the staff of the hotel where the West Indian cricketers had put up for their one-day match against India last month.
The ACU team will also try to ascertain whether any other cricketer was involved in leaking information to bookies.
The team will submit its report to the ICC which would then recommend what action could be taken against the West Indian all-rounder who has been accused of leaking information on team composition to alleged bookie Mukesh Kochar.
"The ICC then will forward the report to the West Indies Cricket Board which will have to take action if the player is found to be guilty," the source said.
Meanwhile, the ICC will have a meeting of its top officials in Dubai today to assess and study the situation following the sensational disclosure by the Nagpur police on Wednesday.
"The ICC is aware of all the developments. We will meet today to assess the situation and see what are the options available to us. The meeting will also be attended by top ACU officials," an ICC source told PTI.
The Nagpur police had stunned the cricketing world by disclosing a taped conversation between Samuels and Kochar, which had raised fears of a fresh match-fixing scandal seven years after the infamous Hansie Cronje episode.
The Nagpur Police Commissioner SPS Yadav said on Thursday there were enough indications of betting in Samuels-Kochar conversation but a case could not be registered because of insufficient evidence.
Yadav said that the police had kept a close watch on Samuels after getting a tip-off that somebody was trying to call him in the hotel room.
