Former chairman of selectors Kiran More says the process put in place during his tenure is bearing dividends now, as evinced in the emergence of players like Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Kaarthick.
"What you are seeing now is the process that we had started. We gave the chance at Indore (against England) to Uthappa and Kaarthick and they are showing their worth now," the former India stumper said, at the IPCL ground in Vadodara, on Monday.
"What we are seeing now are players who can bat at a lot of positions and contribute in different ways to the team's success.
"That's the process that we set forth out to do but unfortunately they got criticized in the media as excessive experimentation. Now other teams are following it."
More, who's also the secretary of the Baroda Cricket Association, praised Uthappa's batting, saying he resembled batting great Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag in some of the strokes that he played in his blazing knock of 70 off 41 balls in the third one-dayer at Chennai.
"He batted superbly and some of his shots reminded me of Sachin and Sehwag," said More, also praising Kaarthick as a utility cricketer who could be in the playing eleven along with first-choice wicketkeeper Dhoni.
"Why not? Kaarthick has shown his worth and that he can be in the eleven at the same time with Dhoni," More said.
More and V B Chandrasekhar were the two selection panel members whose term ended last season and were replaced by Dilip Vengsarkar and Venkapathy Raju respectively for the current season.
More also said that the time off from international cricket for Sourav Ganguly and Zaheer Khan had done them a world of good, as was seen on their return to the national squad now.
"Both Sourav and Zaheer seem to have got back the hunger. It's showing now," said the former India wicketkeeper who along with coach Greg Chappell was vilified by critics Sourav Ganguly's ouster.
The former captain regained his place in the one-day team after 15 months recently and scored 98 in his comeback innings at Nagpur in the ongoing series against the West Indies.
By the same token More feels that Sehwag would come back stronger after missing the entire series against the West Indies.
"I'm sure he will come back into the team and perform better," he said.
