Injury setback may delay Vaughan return

Michael Vaughan's planned comeback to the England one-day team may be put on hold after he aggravated his injured hamstring training on Sunday.

Vaughan is hoping to play in England's next game against New Zealand on Tuesday after being out of action for a week.

"I felt a little bit of a twinge when I ducked a ball, so we will have to monitor how I wake up tomorrow," Vaughan told a news conference in Perth on Sunday.

"I need to make sure that I get through a full net session and fielding session tomorrow... the odd twinge might be something I have to live with so tomorrow will be a real key."

Vaughan said he was desperate to resume playing and help his team regain their confidence after crashing to two humiliating defeats in Adelaide.

England were bowled out for 120 in their 90-run loss to New Zealand then 110 in their nine-wicket defeat to Australia.

"There was a lot of hurt players in that dressing room and rightfully so," Vaughan said.

"I have been in the England team in the eight years and that (is) as low as I have ever seen those players."

Vaughan said England were struggling after such a long and disappointing tour and needed a victory to lift themselves back up heading into the World Cup.

"It is ... cancerous. You can just feel it happening in and around the dressing room," he said.

"At the end of a long hard tour like this one, it is a mental problem, and that is something the players have to live with individually and make sure that they try and sort that out."

Vaughan said England could not continue to produce the same dismal performances and expect to be in good shape for the World Cup.

"The whole focus is to make sure players realise their own individual standards have got to improve."
